OTTAWA – Thirty years ago today the Green Party of Canada was born at a small conference in Ottawa.
Since then the party has grown extraordinarily and has achieved so much – from running 60 candidates in the 1984 election, to becoming only the fourth party in the history of Canada to run candidates in all 308 ridings, and to our great achievement of electing the first Canadian Green MP, Elizabeth May, in 2011.
“Today is a day for Greens all across Canada, like you, to celebrate how far we’ve come in the past 30 years,” said Green Leader Elizabeth May, Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands.
“Sign the Green Party’s 30th birthday card and show Canada this is just the beginning,” said May.
