(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), congratulates the BC Greens and Leader Andrew Weaver on their unprecedented breakthrough in British Columbia:
"Today, British Columbians chose a vision of hope over fear by electing three Green MLAs. Never before has a Green Party in North America elected more than one member to a legislature. BC Greens have given British Columbians something to vote for, rather than against.
"As I campaigned with Adam, Sonia and other incredible BC Green candidates over the past month, I witnessed a deep desire for change. This change can now be realized, as Andrew and his incredible new MLAs work tirelessly to build a better British Columbia and advance the BC Greens platform. Greens across Canada are inspired by strong results from candidates like Kim Charlesworth (Nelson-Creston), Dan Hines (Kamloops-North Thompson), Donovan Cavers (Kamloops-South Thompson), Jonina Campbell (New Westminster) and Mark Neufeld (Saanich South).
"I extend my deepest congratulations to Andrew Weaver, and MLAs-elect Adam Olsen (Saanich North and the Islands) and Sonia Furstenau (Cowichan Valley). Tonight, all Greens celebrate with the BC Greens on more than doubling the share of the popular vote. Under the leadership of Andrew Weaver, the BC Greens have become a legitimate political force, one which can lead British Columbia towards a progressive, sustainable economy."
