Conservatives will launch “tough” new Green plan targeting oil sands proclaims The Globe and Mail front page story today (March 10). But there’s nothing tough about the plans at all.
The Conservatives will focus on carbon sequestration rather than carbon emissions reductions and energy efficiency.
It’s clear from the IPCC reports that developing nations must have hard caps to bring down CO2 emissions. The scientists I’ve heard from is that absolute emissions have to begin falling by 2015 if we’re to avoid catastrophic impact.
But the tar sands under this plan will be able to increase its’ emissions.
