OTTAWA -- The Green Party of Canada is pleased to share in the celebration of the second awarding of Canadian Peace Negotiators. Paul Maillet, former Green Party candidate for the riding of Ottawa-Orleans in the last election, is one of the four being honoured.
In November 2010 Civilian Peace Service Canada (CPSC), the first organization to develop and apply a standardized methodology for accrediting Peace Professionals, presented accreditation certificates to their first two graduates: Dr. Ben Hoffman and Yves Morneau. To their knowledge, these were the first two individuals to have received such recognition anywhere in the world.
This year, on June 28th, four more individuals have been awarded Peace Professional accreditation. The four candidates are: Dr. Poorna Kanta Adhikary, Patricia Brady, Dr. Frank Fowlie, and Paul Maillet.
“Canada needs to reaffirm its commitment to the vision of Lester B. Pearson by pressing for the revitalization of the United Nations Peace Keeping Force. Those who prefer to deal in the arms trade have successfully, over the past couple of decades, sullied the image of this UN body, its importance and the support it deserves,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party and Member of Parliament for Saanich-Gulf Islands.
