OTTAWA - The Green Party of Canada congratulates Jean Béliveau as he
heads to Ottawa on the final leg of his World Wide Walk. He started his trip around the planet more than a
decade ago, on August 18, 2000, in support of the U.N. proclamation of
2001-2010 as the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence
for the Children of the World.
"Jean Béliveau's humble and heroic manifestation is a personal commitment
of which all Canadians can be truly proud," stated Elizabeth May, Green
Party of Canada leader and M.P. for Saanich-Gulf Islands.
"Walking with Jean for a little while on his way from Toronto to Ottawa is
a great honour," noted Green Party of Canada Peace and Security critic
Ellen Michelson on Sunday, September 11. "Non-violence is one of the six
core values for green parties around the world, and it is
a joy for me to manifest my support, and the support of the Green Party of
Canada, in this way."
In his walk, Jean Béliveau has traversed North and South
America, Europe and Africa, Asia and the Far East, Australia and New Zealand.
He is due in Ottawa October 1, where he will participate in the Fifth
Annual Ottawa Peace Festival.
