Elizabeth May was on hand to welcome the new candidate at the open nomination meeting
(VICTORIA) – Award-winning photographer, former journalist, and community organizer, Frances Litman, will represent the Green Party of Canada in the upcoming election for the riding of Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke. Following a nomination meeting held at the Royal Colwood Golf Course on Sunday, Ms. Litman won the nomination over Dave Hodgins, a retired fire chief and Esquimalt councillor.
“Frances Litman is everything a Green Party candidate should be and I share the excitement of our local members in welcoming Frances to be our candidate for Esquimalt-Saanich-Sooke.,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich - Gulf Islands. “This new riding was blessed to have two incredible candidates stand for nomination. I am truly grateful that Dave Hodgins made the decision to put his name forward. He is an excellent individual with outstanding credentials.”
“I’m thrilled and honoured to join the growing collective of progressive Green candidates on Vancouver Island and across the country,” said Ms. Litman. “Together, we’re giving Canadians new opportunities to get engaged, new reasons to be hopeful, and a new chance to vote for a prosperous and sustainable future.”
Frances Litman signed a ‘candidate pledge’ after the votes were counted, confirming her promise to serve her constituents first and foremost, with transparency and accountability.
Elizabeth May also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Canadian flag at the event, serving a Maple Leaf cake as the crowd of more than 200 joined in a rendition of the national anthem.
