(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement on International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia:
“Today, we celebrate diversity and recognize that individuals still continue to face discrimination and persecution across the world. International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia is an opportunity to reassert that advancing GLBTTQ rights and freedoms is a victory for human rights.
“Canadians can be proud that our nation was one of the first to recognize sexual orientation as a protected right. I am also proud the Green Party was the first federal party to officially support the inclusion of same-sex couples in civil marriage.
“Today, on International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, let us work towards a more inclusive society, free from hatred and discrimination.”
