Greens want leaders to meet on Syrian crisis

(OTTAWA) September 8, 2015 - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (Saanich – Gulf Islands) today replied to Justin Trudeau’s letter proposing that all major party leaders meet to discuss the Syrian crisis.

“Mr. Trudeau has my full support for a leaders’ meeting,” said Ms. May. “We need to meet now.”

“The Syrian refuge crisis must be addressed immediately. We cannot let partisan views interfere. Canadians have stood up and demanded that their government do more to help out Syrians. Party leaders need to work together and act now.”

“This cannot wait until after the election. Syrian families must be brought to safety.” Ms. May reaffirmed the Green’s commitment to the refuge crisis and the proposal to increase the number of Syrian refugees to 40 000 over the next 5 years.
