(OTTAWA) June 2, 2016 – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands), released the following statement on amendments announced today to the Special Committee for Electoral Reform:
“I’m pleased to see the government putting Canada ahead of partisanship by removing their majority on the Special Committee on Electoral Reform, by including representatives from all parties,” Ms. May said.“I am gratified that the government has accepted parliamentary tradition that it is not unusual for members of smaller parties to be full members on committees."
“Canadians can now be assured that the all-party committee, once struck, will work collaboratively to make every vote count in the 2019 election. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to improve democracy for all Canadians, and I look forward to traveling from coast to coast to coast with my fellow committee members in the coming months. Let’s get to work.”
