Montreal, March 2, 2017 — The Green Party of Canada is pleased to announce Daniel Green, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada, as its candidate in the Saint-Laurent by-election to be held on April 3.
Mr. Green has served the public for 35 years and has been active on many environmental contamination files in Québec and Canada sampling, analyzing and explaining pollution issues to the public. Whether supporting the victims of asbestos or TCE-contaminated water in Shannon, or the people of Lac-Mégantic, Mr. Green has consistently fought to prevent or eliminate contamination that threatens human health.
Daniel Green entered politics as Deputy Leader of the Green Party of Canada and stood for election in 2015 in Ville-Marie – Le Sud Ouest – Iles-des-Sœurs.
“I am very proud to announce that I will be a candidate in the Saint-Laurent riding,” Mr. Green said. “This is an area that I know very well as I attended school at Cegep Saint-Laurent. Since then, I have worked on many social and environmental cases in the riding, and I believe I can bring ideas that are different from what has been heard so far by the Saint-Laurent electorate.”
“Daniel has my full support for his campaign in Saint-Laurent,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (Saanich-Gulf Islands).“I was in Saint-Laurent with Daniel last summer to defend the threatened Technoparc marsh, and I am sure that the people of Saint-Laurent will recognize in Daniel Green the perfect representative to defend their interests in Ottawa."
Joey Leckman, GPC Québec spokesperson, noted: “Daniel Green is a well-known environmentalist and a politician who is aware of the issues and his electorate. He would be an excellent Member of Parliament for Saint-Laurent and the Montreal area.”
Mr. Green concluded: “The Saint-Laurent electorate have a choice: they can continue with a Liberal candidate, or they can elect a Green MP and send the message to the rest of Canada that Saint-Laurent is looking to the future.”
