Green Party of Canada names new Executive Director

OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada is proud to announce the appointment of Prateek Awasthi as the party’s new Executive Director.

Mr. Awasthi was formerly Director of Policy and Advocacy with Engineers Without Borders Canada. Prior to that, he worked for a decade as a specialist on youth participation and leadership at United Nations headquarters in New York. He has a law degree from the University of Pune, India, and a Masters in Public Administration from the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University.

"I'm honoured to be entrusted with this responsibility,” said Mr. Awasthi. “Right now, our priority is to support our stellar MPs, Elizabeth, Paul and Jenica, who are working hard to make sure no Canadians fall through the cracks in the federal response to COVID-19, and that everyone has the support and resources they need to pull through. Moving forward, I look forward to working with all stakeholders to advocate for the values and policies of the Green Party, which Canada needs now more than ever."

“It is exciting to have Prateek joining our team at this time of renewal for the GPC,” said Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts. “He brings such a great combination of experience, education and enthusiasm to the position. Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding working conditions right now, our staff is eager to start working with Prateek. There is such a need for what Greens have to offer right now.”

As Executive Director, Mr. Awasthi will work closely with the party’s Federal Council to provide strategic and operational leadership, formulating goals and annual plans and directing all party operations including administration, fundraising, communications and election planning.
