OTTAWA. – Green Party Interim Leader Jo-Ann Roberts today congratulated Cowichan Valley MLA Sonia Furstenau on winning the leadership of the Green Party of British Columbia. Ms. Furstenau, who ran against environmental lawyer Cam Brewer and entrepreneur Kim Darwin, replaces Interim Leader, Adam Olsen.
“I’d like to congratulate Sonia Furstenau on becoming the new Leader of the B.C. Greens,” said Ms. Roberts. “This is an exciting time for Greens across the country and around the world and Sonia’s leadership skills will be invaluable in guiding the party moving forward. I’d also like to applaud Cam Brewer and Kim Darwin for participating with Sonia in the leadership contest, which is no small feat given the restrictions of a pandemic. Thanks also to Interim Leader, Adam Olsen who has guided the party since Andrew Weaver stepped down in January. All of these individuals highlight the exemplary calibre of people stepping up to run for the Greens both provincially and federally.”
Green parliamentary leader Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) added: “Congratulations to members of the Green Party of British Columbia for choosing an experienced and extraordinary leader! Thanks to Kim Darwin and Cam Brewer for a spirited race. With John Horgan mulling over a snap election, I am so pleased that the B.C. Greens will have a leader who can take on the B.C. NDP from her place as a leader in the legislature."
“I have known Sonia Furstenau since before either of us were elected to office,” said Paul Manly (MP, Nanaimo-Ladysmith). “Sonia has always brought people together and led with integrity. Seeing her elected to leader of the BC Greens today fills me with optimism. I look forward to working with Sonia in her new role, and to working with Cam Brewer and Kim Darwin as we continue to build momentum for Greens everywhere.”
