(NANAIMO, BC) - The Green Party of Canada is ramping up nomination meetings in anticipation of winning more seats in 2015. Last night star candidate Paul Manly won the Green Party nomination for the newly created riding of Nanaimo - Ladysmith.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled that Paul Manly will carry the Green banner in 2015,” said Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and Member of Parliament for Saanich – Gulf Islands. “Paul has a strong national reputation as an activist for social justice, fair trade agreements, labour rights, and environmental sustainability. As a respected filmmaker and past board member of Council of Canadians, he will bring a critical voice to Parliament.”
Mr. Manly is known as a filmmaker and a voice for environmental and social justice in his community. His father, Jim Manly, a retired United Church Minister served as the MP for Cowichan – Malahat and The Islands from 1980 to 1988. His mother, Eva Manly, is also a filmmaker and social activist.
Mr. Manly said that the Green Party is the only party that allows its members to freely represent their constituents ahead of party politics and the only party that takes the climate crisis seriously.
“It is for these reasons that I have decided to run for the Green Party, the only party of hope, vision, and positive change in Canada,” stated Mr. Manly.
“Paul understands the realities of running for office from growing up in a politically active family,” concluded Elizabeth May. “He has never been afraid to speak the truth and has never been fearful of criticism that may come from that. This is exactly the quality of representation that voters should come to expect from their MP.”
