(OTTAWA) - Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP (Saanich – Gulf Islands), issued the following statement thanking John Percy for his work after deciding to step down as Leader of the Green Party of Nova Scotia.
“I want to salute John for all he has done to build the Green Party in Nova Scotia,” said Elizabeth May. “John’s outstanding record as Leader of the Nova Scotia Greens and as an advocate for veteran’s rights is well-known by supporters of the provincial and federal Greens.
“You have done a wonderful job, and we all recognize your inspiring leadership and unwavering commitment to the Nova Scotia Green Party. However, this is not goodbye, for John will continue to work with the Green Party of Canada as our Veteran’s Affairs Critic.”
At Saturday’s party’s annual meeting, John Percy cited health concerns as his reason for stepping down as leader of the Nova Scotia Greens.
In accordance with the Constitution of the Nova Scotia Green Party, a leadership convention must be held within six months of the announcement. Until the convention, First Deputy Leader Brynn Nheiley assumes the role of Interim Leader and Second Deputy Leader Jason Blanch will fill the position of First Deputy.
