Elizabeth May congratulates B.C. Green Party candidates on strong showing in by-elections

(OTTAWA) – Elizabeth May, Leader of the Green Party of Canada (MP, Saanich – Gulf Islands), congratulates two B.C. Green Party candidates on their strong showing in Tuesday’s by-elections.

In Vancouver-Mount Pleasant, B.C. Green Pete Fry finished second – ahead of the B.C. Liberal candidate – with more than 26% of the vote. Fry more than doubled the B.C. Greens' support in this riding compared to the 2013 provincial election.

In Coquitlam-Burke Mountain, 14% of voters chose B.C. Green Joe Keithley, representing an eight percent vote increase over 2013.

“I’m encouraged to see strong and growing support for Greens in British Columbia,” Ms. May said. “On behalf of the Green Party of Canada, I thank Pete Fry and Joe Keithley for representing real change in their communities. Under the leadership of Andrew Weaver, the B.C. Green Party is poised for a major breakthrough in 2017.”
