(OTTAWA) – The Green Party of Canada welcomed an update by Canadian Press following a March 24th story that suggested the national party funded Elizabeth May’s election campaign in the riding of Saanich-Gulf Islands.
All money used to finance Elizabeth May’s campaign was raised locally, and the Green Party of Canada did not provide national campaign funds to Saanich-Gulf Islands. In fact, the Saanich-Gulf Islands Electoral District Association contributed funds towards the national campaign.
Transfer of funds from the Party to the Saanich-Gulf Islands EDA were the result of donations made through the national website specifically for the Saanich-Gulf Islands campaign. The Party offered the same online donation option to every riding in which we ran a candidate. All transfers of funds were conducted in compliance with Elections Canada policy.
