OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada mourns the death of Christopher J. Bradshaw and extends its deepest sympathies to his friends and family. Christopher was the interim Leader of the Green Party from 2001 to 2003 before Jim Harris took over the helm.
“Chris was a lovely, gentle, thoughtful man,” said Mr. Harris. “I am saddened by his passing. He believed in sustainability. And lived it. He also stewarded the Green Party at a time when it wasn't sexy or mainstream. The world needs more Christopher Bradshaws. Quiet leaders who get things done.”
Matthew Clarke, the Green Party’s Director of Technical Services, recalls how Christopher helped a budding staff through the start-up phase of the party’s central office. “Christopher could be counted on to sign cheques at crazy times and places and provide a car to go get candidate signatures all over the area,” said Mr. Clarke. “He was calm, sensible and hard-working with a deep devotion to environmental stewardship and building viable green businesses, notably a Vrtucar founder. A true example of someone putting their money where their mouth is.”
Leader of the Green Party of Canada, Elizabeth May (MP, Saanich-Gulf Islands) said: “Christopher’s passing came as a shock. My heart is with his wife and family at this difficult time. Christopher was a true visionary and a pioneer who paved the way for the success Greens are seeing across the country today. It takes a lot of courage to take the types of stands Christopher took and I am honoured to share the title of Leader with such a good man.”
The Green Party of Canada remembers a Green champion.
