OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada extends warm wishes to Sikh Canadians and Sikh communities around the world as they celebrate Vaisakhi to mark the beginning of the Sikh and Punjabi new year.
Under normal circumstances this important festival generates Khalsa Day parades and lively festivities that bring friends and families together to share in the celebrations. The COVID-19 pandemic will make this year’s Vaisakhi a more subdued celebration, and especially challenging for those who are unable to gather with loved ones, due to physical distancing and lockdown measures.
“This year Passover, Easter, Vaisakhi and Ramadan are all being celebrated differently,” said Interim Green Party Leader, Jo-Ann Roberts. “Canadians of different faiths are united in our determination to protect each other and those who are most vulnerable. We trust that despite the disruption, the meaning of these occasions will bring strength in this difficult time.”
From the Green Caucus and the Green Party of Canada: “Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh.”
