OTTAWA – The Green Party of Canada today announced the appointment of Adeana Young as the Party’s shadow cabinet critic for reconciliation and Indigenous affairs. Ms. Young is the Green Party candidate in the riding of Skeena—Bulkley Valley.
“We are thrilled to have Adeana join our outstanding team of shadow cabinet critics,” said Green Party Leader Annamie Paul. “The creation of this portfolio is another first for the Green party of Canada. We know that Adeana’s voice, her insights and perspectives will deepen our policy proposals in all areas. We welcome Adeana and look forward to working with her."
A Haida mother of four, Kuun Jaadas Adeana Young is a fisherman’s wife, a storyteller, and a community builder who has been involved in local politics for 10 years as a Band Councillor, School Board Trustee, and member of several boards.
“It's with great determination and an eye into the future that I accept the offer to be in the Green Party’s shadow cabinet as the critic for reconciliation and Indigenous affairs,” said Ms. Young. “While I'm 'just a kid from the rez' I have plenty to offer and am keen on moving forward.”
Adeana is a solutions-driven listener who focuses on making systemic changes that benefit people, the environment, and the economy Adeana starred in the 2018 Haida language film: SGaawaay K'uuna/Edge of the Knife. She lives in her homeland of Haida Gwaii.
