The Green Party of Canada achieved a historic by-election performance in the Montreal riding of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce-Westmount. With 13.3% of the vote, the GPC tripled its total from the 2021 general election. It is also the best score ever recorded by the Party in Quebec.
“We led a campaign of ideas and hard work,“ said Jonathan Pedneault, Deputy Leader of the party who ran in the riding. “ We’re proud of the incredible dedication that volunteers from coast to coast to coast demonstrated in support of this bid. “
"As expected the Liberals held the seat in NDG-Westmount, but the battle for second place is where Greens saw a real shift, " said Elizabeth May, Green Party Leader. "Jonathan Pedneault, in his first-ever electoral campaign, more than tripled the Green vote share in NDG-Westmount and surpassed our 2019 results. »
"In just his first election, JP and countless volunteers have put Greens on the map in Québec, ” said MP Mike Morrice. “JP is a climate champion, a strong advocate and a charismatic leader - and these results give a sense for how well he connected with so many in NDG-Westmount over the course of this by election."
Elsewhere in the country, Green candidates Cheryle Baker (Oxford) , Doug Hemmerling (Winnipeg South Centre) and Nic Geddert (Portage-Lisgar) received 2.2%, 2.7% and 2.2% of the vote respectively.
